A middle-aged man was been sent to his early grave on Monday when a five-man gang of armed robbers shot him at the front of a bank in Asaba, Delta State capital.
The incident occurred at about 8:15 am at the popular Ibusa junction where the armed robbers stationed themselves in a blue Golf car waiting for the man and his money.
An eyeswitness who gave the account of incident, said that the robbers have been around the bank for over an hour before the arrival of the victim with the money.
“Three of them seated close to my shop for hours, before a man walked towards the bank and they quickly walked towards the man(victim), who carried a black bag full of money, started dragging the bag with him, asking him ‘where is the money’?
“We saw them dragging the money with the man, I thought it was those people that usually act movies on the street until they shot the man, before we realising exactly what was going on. So everyone took to their heels while the victim still holding on to the bag of the money struggling into the bank premises before he fell on the ground soaked with blood,” the eyeswitness said
Investigation revealed that the police attached to the bank quickly removed their uniform after hearing the gun shot. The robbers walked majestically to their waiting car and zoomed off.
Bank officials rushed the victim to federal medical center (FMC) where he died later.
The name of the victim could not be ascertained at the time of filing this report, while his money was in the custody the bank.
The Delta state police image-maker, DSP Andrew Aniamaker confirmed the incident, saying that the remains of the deceased had been deposited at the mortuary.
