In a statement made available to reporters in Abuja, Olushola-Obimakinde, who is also the president/national co-ordinator, Voice of Love Grassroots Empowerment Initiative (VLGEI), also faulted a recent disclosure by the military authorities that they were monitoring the activities of Nigerians online, with a view to cracking down on those expressing contrary views on the military and the Federal Government.

The statement read: The VLGEI congratulates our Muslim brothers and sisters across Nigeria and the world for the Eid-el-Kabir. We wish you all a most successful celebration and urge us all to use this festive season to promote unity amongst all faiths in our country, instead of using religion as a divisive tool.”

On the military’s monitory of cyberspace for criticism against itself and government, the VLGEI grassroots right crusader Olushola-Obimakinde, wrote: “No responsibly responsive democratic government would allow itself to be stampeded by any cabal or ill-intentioned group into taking such dictatorial steps.

“We are shocked to see that the APC-led government is favourably disposed to using our military to violate the fundamental human rights of the Nigerian People to freedom of speech. The VLGEI will not stand by and watch the Nigerian People oppressed by State security apparatuses established and running on the very taxpayers’ money paid by the Nigerian People. The citizenry of any democratic nation is a necessary tool to ensure the government delivers on its electoral promises. Any undemocratic and unconstitutional attempt to monitor and arrest people for expressing their heart-felt views about the government will undermine our democratic system. It will also reflect badly on us as a nation before the international community. It is therefore, a no-go area and should be stopped forthwith.”
