The Sokoto State Zakat and Endowment Agency (SOZEA) in collaboration with Islamic Education Trust (IET) slaughtered no fewer than 3000 cows which were donated to over 15,000 households for free in the just concluded Eid-el-Kabir, Malam Lawal Maidoki has disclosed.
Maidoki, who is the chairman of the state Zakat and Islamic Education Trust, however, added that the cows were made available in Kano, Sokoto and Kaduna was with the support of Sulaimaniya and Diversity Turkey
“We express our deepest gratitude to Darul Erkam Foundation, Sulaimaniyah and Diversity and the Government of Turkey for their generous support, enabling us to organize this Qurbani distribution. We also appreciate the efforts of our team, volunteers and partners who worked tirelessly to make this event a success, Maidoki said.
Continuing, Maidoki stressed that their initial target was to slaughter 4,000 cows for the Qurbani,which would have cost N2.5 billion, adding thowever that they ended up slaughtering 3,000 cows which cost N1.750 billion because of insecurity and other unexpected challanges.
On how the Qurbani cows were distributed, the Zakat chairman noted that they do not observe any discrimination as it was devoid of political, religious or tribal affiliation.
