Save the Children, a non-governmental organization has restated its commitment to partner with government at all levels to fight malnutrition and poor health care delivery affecting the lives of Nigerian children.

The organization stated this yesterday in Abuja at a press brief to launch its new campaign titled Every Last Child. The new campaign it says, will focus on reaching excluded children such as refugees, the girl child, and children living with disabilities which were not affected by its previous humanitarian campaign in order to ensure that it reaches the world most excluded children by 2030.

While highlighting the impacts of its last project, the head of health, Save the Children, Dr. Abimbola Williams disclosed that the organization is committed to supportive partnership for innovation in health care delivery that ensures Nigeria can end preventable maternal and new born deaths through scaling up evidence based approaches that generate positive results for the health of Nigerian families. She noted that this renewed effort has become necessary as the 2013 Save the Children State of the Mother’s Report indicated that out of 7 million babies born every year in Nigeria, 260, 000 die within their first month of life and nearly 300, 000 are still born.

Dr. Abimbola while lamenting the state of basic medical access to women and children, noted that one of the major barriers to accessing essential health care services in Nigeria is the dearth of skilled manpower.
The organization said it is already partnering with government of some northern states which include Jigawa, Zamfara and Yobe and hope other northern states will be open to a sustainable collaborative platform to improve child nutrition in northern Nigeria, where it is most prevalent.
