National Chairman, All Progressives Congress (APC), Sen. Abdullahi Adamu, has asserted that the party will field only the best candidates out of the lot angling to secure the APC tickets for various positions to contest in 2023 General Elections.

Adamu stated this while inaugurating the party’s screening committees for governorship, senatorial and House of Representatives aspirants in Abuja on Saturday, 14th May, 2022.

Represented by Malam Abubakar Kyari, the national chairman also used the opportunity to welcome new decampees into the party.

He said: “We have a very strong party; we have a big party. And we’re committed to delivering the right candidates for the forthcoming elections. We have no doubt that the distinguished ladies and gentleman assembled here will do just that.

“And I know there’s a long, long huddle ahead of all of us. I would like to at this point plead with you to be patient, screen thoroughly so that we can have the best of the best.

“We have been very fortunate as a party that we have produced the best. Today we have 22 states and at the last count before myself (Kyari) and the national chairman and one of our colleagues resigned from the Senate we had 70 senators out of 109, which is just three shy of the two-third majority needed in the Senate. Also we have almost two-third of the House of Representatives membership.

“And even after we had left we had one senator who decamped into the APC from Sokoto and we’re expecting another one from Oyo to officially cross the aisle to the APC. All of us here in the National Working Committee, on behalf of the national chairman, would like to welcome you here.

National Organising Secretary, APC, Suleiman Argungu, said the party has a total number of 145 senatorial aspirants while 1,197 were aspiring for the House of Representatives.

Argungu said: “Let me on behalf of the National Chairman and National Working

Committee welcome you all. This exercise is to screen our gubernatorial aspirants, senatorial aspirants and aspirants to the of House of Representatives.

“So far, we have 145 aspirants for the Senate and we have constituted three panels to screen the governorship aspirants. Also, we have 351 aspirants who have returned the senatorial aspiration forms. We have 1,197 aspirants for the House of Representatives with 10 panels.

“The panels for the Senate is going to be four, In addition to that, we have the guideline of our great party that will be given to each of the panels for screening and indeed the Appeal Committee.

“We also have a set of guidelines an aspirant assessment and verification form that will be given to each of the committee for the screening. We expect that this work will be done between today and tomorrow. We believe this is not going to be a big assignment to all of you and we pray you will do justice to all the aspirants so that by 2023 we will have very good, credible candidates that are going to contest on the platform of our great party.”

Argungu disclosed that “we have 28 presidential aspirants so far. They will be screened on the 23rd of May, 2022.”
