Borno State Governor Kashim Shettima, has commended the Nigeria Army and Borno State Environmental Protection Agency (BOSEPA) other agencies for embarking on sanitation exercise as part of activities marking the Nigeria Army Day celebrations.
Shettima disclosed that as peace gradually returns to the state, the Saturday sanitation and fumigation” exercise will be continue.
The governor, who was represented by the state Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Barrister Kaka Shehu Lawan said the sanitation exercise was not conducted for six or seven years as a result of Boko Haram activities in the state.
He thanked the Nigeria Army for a job well done, adding that, despite its primary responsibility of protecting citizens, the Nigeria Army finds it necessary to offer additional community services.
The governor thanked the management and staff BOSEPA under the leadership of Nasiru Ali Surundi for making Maiduguri clean.
He announced the payments of the outstanding balance of one month salary to the BOSEPA staff, which sent the workers into a jubilatory frenzy as the sang and danced with joy.
Acting General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the Seven Division of the Nigeria Army Brig-Gen. Victor Ezugwu who flagged off the exercise said: “Today as part of the activities to mark Nigeria Army Day celebration 2016 we decided to come and clean up Maiduguri Monday market and the environs. We attribute the success of the exercise to the peace we are enjoying in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital. The exercise indicated that Nigeria Army has won the war against the insurgents.”
Ezugwu assured that “Nigerian Army will not relent on its efforts to bring lasting peace in the state and the country as a whole.”
