
Former Head of the Interim National Government, Chief Ernest Shonekan, has died at the age of 85.
Chief Shonekan died in a Lekki, Lagos hospital on Tuesday in the Lekki area of Lagos state. According to his family, Shonekan died of natural causes
He was the interim head of the Nigerian government between August 26 and November 17, 1993, succeeding Gen. Ibrahim Babangida who was forced to “step aside” following the crisis which trailed the annulled June 12, 1993 Presidential Election.
Shonekan was ousted in a coup led by late Gen. Sani Abacha.
