Teachers in Akwa Ibom State have been urged to display a high sense of commitment, dedication and devotion to service so as to arouse the interest of students in learning.
Permanent Secretary, State Secondary Education Board (SSEB) proffered the advice while conducting surprise visits to secondary schools across the state.
At Community Secondary School in Ndukpoise, Nsit Ubium Local Government, he observed that no student reported at school on the reopening date while only four teachers reported for duty.
The Permanent Secretary expressed displeasure over the poor environment and immediately directed the principal to replace the worn out and defaced national flag and mount the portraits of the president and governor in her office and urged her to sit up in the interest of the students.
At Community Secondary School, Ikot Uso Ekong, Eket, the permanent secretary lauded the Principal, Mrs. Elizabeth Iwot, on her prudent use of subvention for renovation of classroom block and some offices in addition to providing the necessary items for the smooth running of the school.
He expressed delight that most of the teachers filled their scheme of work for the term and were teaching from properly written notes.
The board’s chief scribe also observed that availability of the lesson notes and the presence of the 50 percent of students receiving lessons were clear indication that the school management and staff had held the thanksgiving and dedication service for God’s guidance and protection in 2016
He charged the staff to key into the philosophy of working hard in silence for success to make noise as propagated by the state Head of service.
He further charged the staff to carry out their assigned duties with the fear of God as a way of promoting the board and the state.
