The Bayelsa State Coordinator of Raw Materials Research and Development Council (RMRDC) Mr. David Okene, has, stressed the importance of raw materials in the development of the state and Nigeria at large.
Okene, who spoke with reporters in Yenagoa, the state capital, highlighted the functions of the RMRDC and sue for collaboration with stakeholders in achieving the needed development index.
He said the RMRDC was an agency of the Federal Ministry of Science and Technology, tasked with promoting the development and utilization of Nigeria industrial raw materials input in our local industries
.
Okene stated that since the economy was facing challenges now because of a crash in the global price of oil, and one sure way to beef up internally generated revenue (IGR) is to diversify the economic to Agro-based ventures and manufacturing, stressing that Bayelsa has several economic resources that can be harnessed to generate IGR, notably plantain and sugar cane, which can be converted to ethanol for export.
The RMRDC state coordinator tasked small and medium scale enterprises to collaborate and strategize to explore this emerging opportunities.
Okene also appealed for the enabling environment for investment to thrive, and stressed the provision of steady power supply, good road networks, security and creation of functional markets for finished and unfinished goods as well as soft loan facilities.
He reiterated the resolve of RMRDC Bayelsa State to collaborate with viable micro small and medium scale enterprises (MSMs) to chart ways forward in boosting the investment potential in the state.
