Sokoto Assembly Supports Women, Child Rights, Speaker Assures

Speaker, Sokoto State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Tukur Bala Bodinga, has assured that the State’s 10th Assembly under his leadership remained committed to legislations that support the rights of women and children at all times 

Bodinga, who spoke at the Assembly when executives of the Federation of International Women Lawyers (FIDA) paid him a courtesy visit, stated that as lawmakers were gender friendly. 

According to him, women, as our mothers, sisters and daughters deserves respect and appreciation at all times. 

“Your visit is a testament that this honourable house is gender friendly. And I am assuring you that we are going to give you all the necessary support and partnership that you may require,” Bodinga assured the FIDA executives. 

Recalling that the 9th Assembly passed many laws that prohibited gender-based violence and violence against persons of any sort, Bodinga said the 10th Assembly reaffirmed that they will ensure gender inclusivity, guarantee the rights of women in the society and facilitate speedy passage of any bill that relates to women and children. 

“We know how important women are in the society which explain why they should be supported at all times”.  Bodinga enthused.

Speaking earlier, Sokoto State FIDA Chairperson, Hajiya Zainab Bello, said they were in the Assembly to seek collaboration and support of the lawmkers. 

Bello, who disclosed that FIDA has been in forefront of ensuring that the rights of women and girls are protected, added that they have been advocates against all forms of gender-based violence, including ensuring prosecution of offenders. 

The Sokoto FIDA chairperson also called on all to collaborate with them in the mission of ensuring safe society for all.
