Sokoto Donates 69 Trucks Of Fertilizer To Farmers For Dry Season Farming

Sokoto state governor, Ahmed Aliyu, on Monday, 23 December, 2024 flagged off the distribution of 2024 dry season fertilizers to farmers across the state. 

The governor, while speaking in Wamakko village, headquarter of Wamakko local government, disclosed that each of the 23 local government areas in the state will be given three truck-load of the fertilizer for onward distribution to farmers free of charge.

According to GovernorAliyu, his government will continue to support  agriculture being one of the 9-Point Agenda of his administration to help facilitate food security and create employment. 

His words: “We are here today to contribute towards not only ensuring food security but also improve living condition of our people. And to achieve that, our government will continue to support famers in the state.

“Today, we are flagging off the donation three truck-load of fertilizer comprising NPK, Urea, Insecticides, Pesticides and other farm inputs to each of the 23 local government areas of the state for dry season farming,” the governor noted. 

While appealing to the committee in charge of the distribution to be just to all with fear of God, the governor warned against diversion, saying anybody caught sabotaging government’s sincere gesture will be dealt with. 

Wamakko Local Government chairman, Alhaji Ummaru Ahmad Dundaye, in his welcome address, said the governor’s effort towards encouraging agriculture in the state was a good development.

On his part, the state’s Commissioner for Agriculture, Alhaji Bello Muhammed Wamakko, said the flag of the distribution of dry season fertilizers and other agro chemicals to farmers across the state was a step in the right direction. 

Giving his submission at the event, the Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, represented by Galadiman Gari, Alhaji Aliyu Attahiru, said the governor was fulfilling majority of his campaign promises in less than two years. 

He said: “Farming is very crucial to human existence and looking at the 9-Point Agenda of the governor, one can rate the governor as doing well. Few months ago, this same year 2014, the governor distributed fertilizers free of charge to farmers in the state for the rainy season. Sokoto will not regret voting the governor, looking at what he has achieved just within two years”.
