The Sokoto State Government has welcomed the air strikes on terrorists’ positions in the state carried out by the United States (US) on the orders of President Donald Trump.
In a statement, Abubakar Bawa, Director-General, Media and Publicity, in the state, confirmed the Christmas Day bombing of the terrorists’ camps in Tangaza Local Government Area, Sokoto North Senatorial District and Jabo Village.
Bawa stated that preliminary findings showed that there was no civilian casualties in any of the areas hit by the US bombs.
The statement reads in part: “Sokoto State welcomes any collaboration between Nigeria, and all relevant global stakeholders aimed at curbing the menace of terrorism and cross-border crimes in the state.
“The ongoing operations are geared towards securing the state and ensuring the protection of lives and property of the citizenry.”
It called on all Sokoto residents to continue to cooperate with both the Federal and State Governments by providing useful information to security agencies in order to sustain ongoing efforts geared towards restoring lasting peace and security in Sokoto State.
