From Julius B. Kezi, Kaduna
The Mediation Team on the lingering Southern Kaduna crises, led by former Nigeria Head of State, Retired Gen. Abdulsalam Abubakar, has met with traditional rulers of various communities in the area.
The mediatory meeting held at the palace of the Chief of Kagoro behind closed doors, lasted for over two and a half hours.
Speaking in an interview with reporters soon after the meeting, the team leader Gen. Abubakar said government efforts were principally to ensure that peace returned to Southern Kaduna.
The former Head of State said the meeting was also to find out the root cause of the violence, with a view to “coming up with a device” to stem the ugly trend.
He lamented that there had been peaceful co-existence and inter marriages in Southern Kaduna before now and wondered what has gone wrong along the line.
Gen. Abubakar stressed that peace was essential for any development as it forms the basis for people to carryout legitimate businesses.
