Southern Nigeria Peoples Assembly Condemns Fulani Herdsmen Attack

The Southern Nigeria Peoples Assembly (SNPA) has condemned the massacre of Nigerians by alleged Fulani herdsmen and urged the President to investigate, apprehend and prosecute the culprits.
This was contained in a communiqué issued at the end of a three-Day meeting of the Elders and Management Committee of the SNPA on Friday in Asaba.
The communiqué, read by the Co-Ordinating Secretary, Dr Ifedi Okwenna, said that the meeting deliberated on the security, socio-political, economic situations of the country and the killings of Nigerians by the herdsmen.
It described as heinous, wicked and as a threat to national unity, the recent attacks, rape and killings of Nigerians in Enugu, Benue and other parts of the country.
It said that the proposed Grazing Bill which seeks to establish grazing reserves across Nigeria was an elevation of private commercial business ventures into a government business.
It, however, charged Nigerians to support President Muhammed Buhari’s effort to move the country forward in his fight against corruption, war on insurgency and moves to revive the country’s ailing economy.
The SNPA stated: “The president should act decisively on the issue of Fulani herdsmen in the manner government is dealing with the insurgency because if unchecked it can snowball into another Boko Haram.
It “reject the establishment of grazing field and abolish nomadic grazing but encourage those who wish to rear cattle to use modern technology and rapid production of fodders for feeding cattle.”
The communiqué also cautioned those using inciting language, stressing that “Buhari is the president of Nigeria and not that of a section of the county”.
It called on government to look into the gaps that existed in the foreign exchange market and bridge it and to also find solutions to the lingering fuel supply gaps and the epileptic electricity supply in the country.
The communiqué thanked the host state governor, Sen. Ifeanyi Okowa for his support and his dedication to the promotion of unity in the country.
