Stage Set For CCSF Taekwondo PRIX SERIES II

Preparations have begun in earnest for the second edition of the 2017 CCSF Prix Series, which is set to hold on the 9th and 10th June 2017 at the Old Parade Ground Abuja.

The innovative grassroots sports event, which is an initiative of the Chika Chukwumerije Sports Foundation, will be expecting over 150 athletes over the two days to compete in the kiddies, cadets, juniors and adult categories.
To ensure it is truly a grassroots development initiative, elite athletes who have represented Nigeria and other countries are not eligible to participate in the event. A total to N178,000 prize monies will be given to winners in the adult categories. Medals and certificates will be given to all medallists across all the categories.
At the inaugural edition, held in March 2017, there were a total of 112 athletes [72 kiddies and 40 adults] from 22 clubs, including clubs from Lagos, Plateau, Kaduna and Niger State] who competed in just the kiddies and adult categories.
In the kiddies’ category, Brickhall Taekwondo, owned by Senator Joy Emordi, came in first position with two Gold, two Silver and four Bronze followed by Eagle Taekwondo and Korean Cultural Centre who came a joint second with two Gold, two Silver and one Bronze.
In the adult category, hosts Team CCSF came in first position with three Gold, four Silver and one Bronze. Lagos state based club, Q-Madi owned by upcoming fiery legal counsel, Barrister Kazeem Adetola, came in second with a total of two Gold medals, while A.B.U Zaria came in third position with one Gold medal.

Head Coach of A.B.U Zaria, Alhaji Sani Lawal, who is a two-time ex-National Champion, three-time ex-Nigeria University Games Champion and an International Certified Coach from the Kyung Hee University South Korea, has lots of praise for the initiative.
He said: “Programmes like this gives me hope for the future of Nigeria Taekwondo. Imagine how powerful to have athletes who do not even have black belts using the same technology and equipment being at major competitions like the Olympics and World Championship at the grassroots stage.
“This is why even though it was an FCT Abuja event, I made sure my athletes in ABU Zaria took advantage of it by bringing them to gain the experience. Surely, I will bring even more athlete to gate crash the next edition.”
Team CCSF revelation, 18-year old Elizabeth Anyanacho, will be looking to retain the Gold Medal she won at the inaugural edition.
She said: “I still have a lot to learn and I hope to do just that in the next editions. My gold medals in Accra and Senegal earlier this year has given me more confidence and desire to do more”
Online registration for the kiddies and cadets’ categories of the event has begun while that for the juniors and adults would begin on 20th April. The CCSF prix series is scheduled to hold at the last month of every quarter in the year.
