The Garrison Commander of 8 Division, Nigeria Army, Sokoto, Brig.-Gen Alex Tawasimi has urged the media to avoid giving bad elements the oxygen to breathe so as to demoralize them for national interest.

Tawasimi, who spoke in his office while receiving the leadership of the State Corespondents Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists’ (NUJ), further appealed to journalists in Nigeria to sustain and intensify their projection of security agencies in correct frame.

While admitting that the media is a very strategic aspect of the society, General Tawasimi said people give diverse interpretation to whatever the media says based on their personal naunces.

‘”Whatever security agencies say or do has different meaning to different people depending on how they look at it”, Gen. Tawasimi submitted

The General further appreciated the cooperation and mutual relationship that exist between journalists’ and security agencies in Sokoto, saying, “”nothing is as good as having good relationship with the media””.

He also appealed to all and sundry to continue to be vigilant and divulge useful information to the relevant security agencies, adding  that doing so will enable them prevent incidences from occuring in the first place.

Speaking earlier, chairman of the Sokoto State Correspondents Chapel, Habibu Harisu, who led his executives on the courtesy visit, reassured the 8 Division Garrison Commander of their unflinching support towards seeing to the end of insecurity not only in Sokoto state but in the country at large.

Habibu also commended the Nigeria Army 8 Division on their continued quick response to inquiries from his members and other journalists in the state.

According to Habibu, insecurity or crime of whatever form slows down development in general, hence the need to see security as a collective responsibility of all and sundry.
