• Have Allegedly Not Received Stipends Since 2013
From Junaid Jibril Maiva, Maiduguri
About 200 Yobe State students studying in Uganda on government scholarship are outraged, citing the egregious neglect and abandonment they have faced at the hands of the Yobe State Government.
Mr Umar Farouk, President of the Student Union of Yobe State in Uganda, who disclosed this to The Dream Daily in Maiduguri via mobile phone, said that the student have not received their N150, 000 feeding stipend since 2013 from the Yobe state Scholarship Board.
Farouk Said: “Students have not received their allotted stipends, an issue that has crippled their academic pursuits. Despite phone calls, letters, visits, and more to the scholarship board, the secretary to the state government and Yobe State Government House, the students have received nothing: no funding, no response, and no answers.
“For a very long time now, we have been going through really difficult financial situations and mentally challenging conditions due to non-payment of our feeding stipends. Whe ever you go to the state government for answers they will ask you to go to the scholarship board. When we go to the scholarship board they will tell you that the money is yet to be released. We hope the governor hears this and intervenes before things get out of hand,” said Farouk.
All effort made to speak with the Executive Secretary of the Yobe State Scholarship Board proved abortive as he did not respond to phones calls made by The Dream Daily’s correspondent in Borno State.
