Usage of fake cables for computer interconnectivity has been identified as one of the major causes of students’ failure in JAMB and WAEC Examinations in Nigeria.
Engineer Oluwafemi Oluwale, an expert from Inter-Sky Digital limited Jos, revealed this during a one-day workshop on “identifying fake cables” held at Fantswam Foundation JAMB/WAEC Examination Centre, Kafanchan, Jema’a Local Government Area Kaduna State, over the weekend.
He explained that Nigerian markets are flooded with fake and substandard cables, which contributed immensely to damage in storage and dissemination of information in both private and public computer systems in the country,
Engineer Oluwale noted that Nigerian cables were the best in the World, however lamented the greed and unpatriotic attitude of Nigerian Business men and regulatory agencies, have allowed the importation of low quality China cables into the Country.
The engineer said, most of the imported cables from particularly China, were iron-copper coated, instead of pure copper, which has very low resistance, hence the need for organizations to seek expert advice on how to identify and procure genuine cables for better connectivity of their computers.
In his remarks, the Deputy Chief Executive Officer, Fantswam Foundation, JAMBB/WAEC centre Kafanchan, Prof. John Dada said slow internet connectivity during examinations accounted for massive failure of candidates, for inability to deliver within time frame.
Dada appealed to Government and its regulatory agencies to as a matter of urgency sensitize Nigerians of the existence of fake and substandard cables as well as take steps to rid Nigerian markets of them, to protect the country’s educational, technological and economic development.
