How To Tackle Insecurity, By Ahmed

Kwara State Governor, Abdulfatah Ahmed, has called on the Federal Government to strengthen the nation’s security around the territorial boundaries in the face of current global and national security challenges.
The governor made the call in his office during a courtesy visit by the Commandant of the National Defence College Nigeria, Abuja, Rear Admiral Samuel Ilesanmi Alade.
Ahmed, who emphasised the need to strengthen and maintain a military presence in the Kosubosu area of the state which shares boarder with the Republic of Benin, said the military had been very supportive in maintaining law and order in the state as evidenced by the level of commercial activities in all locations in the state.
“Truly, the military has served as a major buffer for our needs. I’ll continue to rely on the military to support us; of course, we know a lot of it is ordinarily, internal security issues that should be handled by the police force. Unfortunately, the level of security, globally and nationally, requires us to be on our toes each time”, the governor stressed.
According to the governor, the imperative of security has made the state government to broaden the state security committee meeting to include paramilitary services which have some roles to play in the state security requirements.
Commandant, National Defence College, Nigeria, Abuja, Rear Admiral Samuel Alade, informed the Governor that a group of 51 officers from the college were in the state on study tour of some strategic establishments in the state.
Rear Admiral Alade, who said the team was impressed with what they saw in both Kam Wire Industries and International Aviation College, both in Ilorin, promised to make the report of the Group available to the state government for domestication of their findings.
He therefore pledged that the military would continue to support and collaborate with the government in providing adequate security in the state.
He commended the state government for its efforts at stabilizing the security situation in the state observing that Kwara State is one of the most peaceful states in the country.

“I think Kwara state is one of the states in Nigeria that is very peaceful and going round during our tour of the state really attested to that. There was no incident of insecurity concern. The military will support and collaborate with the state government in the area of security”, the commandant said.
