*Who’s Next? Jitters In Agencies, Departments And Parastatals
If you are in doubt that the night of long knives has closed in on all appointees of former President Goodluck Jonathan in federal agencies, departments and parastatals, this should wake you out of your slumber.
Reason: In a swift follow-up to last weekend’s sack of 13 vice chancellors of federal universities, all but one established by former President Jonathan, President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday purged some 26 federal agencies of President Jonathan’s appointees and alleged sympathisers hitherto serving as directors-general (DG) and managing directors (MDs).
In a statement announcing the mass purge by Mr. Babachir David Lawal, Secretary to the Government of the Federation stated that “the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari has approved that the most senior officers in the parastatals, agencies and councils should oversee the activities of the organizations pending the appointment of substantive CEOs.”
The development, The Dream Daily learnt, has sent jitters down the spines of survivors of the much anticipated culling of President Jonathan’s appointees from federal establishments, a move widely reported in the media to have been championed by chieftains of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in order to create room for party faithful to be compensated for their roles in securing the Presidency for the party and the President in the 2015 General Elections.
Meanwhile, President Buhari has approved the appointment of Mr. Tijjani Mohammed Abdullahi as the Director-General (Budget), according to a statement by Mr. Femi Adesina, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity
Mr. Abdullahi, a fellow of the Certified National Accountants of Nigeria, and a banker of repute with experience in managing public finance, will replace the current Director-General (Budget), Mr. Yahaya Gusau.
The new Director-General (Budget) is expected to work with the Minister of Budget and National Planning to efficiently deliver on the mandates of the Budget Office of the Federation.
President Buhari has also approved the appointment of Mr Ben Ifeanyi Akabueze as the Special Adviser on Planning to the Minister of Budget and National Planning.
Mr Akabueze who is the immediate past Commissioner for Economic Planning and Budget in Lagos State, has worked in senior management positions in Citi Bank, Fidelity Bank, United Bank for Africa, NAL Merchant Bank, Sterling Bank and BIA Consulting Limited, among others.
He is Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Bankers; Fellow, Institute of Credit Administrators and Honorary Fellow, Chartered Institute of Bankers.
