Wives of the accused persons arrested in connection to the theft at the residence of the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, has appealed to the acting Inspector General of Police, Mr. Idris Ibrahim, to wade-in into the matter of allegation leveled against them noting that their husbands are victims of circumstance.
The women who pleaded anonymity spoke to journalists in a press conference held in Ilorin, stressing that the IGP and the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, should assist in releasing their husbands.
According to them, “there is no element of truth in the claims that such huge amount of money was missing. In the first instance, we heard that the sum of N 12 million was missing as claimed by Saraki’s spokesperson and now, we also heard that the sum of N52 million was recovered from somewhere. It is clear now that the information and the entire claims are outrightly misleading and condemnable.
“Also, we were told that it was the Circuit Camera Television (CCTV) that revealed them. But during the course of investigation, it was said that the CCTV has been faulty for a very long time. As we speak with you now, the NSCDC personnel who was also arrested along with them has been released.
“It is 12 days of incarceration now. Our husbands know nothing about the theft or burglary. Our houses have been ransacked, our bank accounts have been checked and our call logs have been collected from service providers and nothing was found there.”
They further maintained that, “no evidence of theft was traced to our husbands. The search team should investigate the politicians and domestic staff working with the Senate President properly. The allegations are unwarranted, ungodly and extremely damaging to our persons. We here appeal to the government, especially the IGP, to assist us.”
