Those hoping that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu would build a federal cabinet full of technocrats were again disappointed on Wednesday 2 August, 2023 as the President presented his supplementary list of ministerial nominees to the Senate as the list was dominated by known, big shots of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) who played prominent role in his presidential campaign.
Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila brought the supplementary list to the Senate on Wednesday as the Upper Chamber screened the second batch of the 28 names which President Tinubu submitted as his ministerial nominees, days ago.
The supplementary list read out by Senate President Godswill Akpabio has the following 19 names: Ahmed Tijjani, Bosun Tijjani, Dr Maryam Shetti, Ishak Salako, Tunji Alausa, Tanko Sununu, Adegboyega Oyetola, Atiku Bagudu, Bello Matawalle, Ibrahim Geidam, Simon Bako Lalong, Lola Adejo, Shuaibu Abubakar, Tahir Mamman, Aliyu Sabi, Alkali Ahmed, Heineken Lokpobiri, Uba Maigari and Zephaniah Jissalo.
Oyetola, Bagudu, Matawalle, Geidam and Lalong are all former governors who played leading roles in President Tinubu’s successful bid for the APC presidential ticket and his eventual election as President.
Lokpobiri, and Jissalo are former federal lawmakers. With the latest nominations, the President now has a prospective cabinet of 47 individuals.
