The Governorship Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Lafia, the Nasarawa State capital on Wednesday upheld the election of the state Governor, Umaru Tanko Al Makura
It would be recalled that the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) governorship candidate in the April, 2015 general election Mr. Labaran Maku, went to the tribunal to challenge the declaration of the APC candidate, Al-makura, as the winner of that election.
Delivering Judgment on the petition, chairman of the tribunal, Justice Halima Mohammed, said the petition lacked merit because the petitioner failed to prove his allegations of over-voting and other malpractices associated with the election beyond reasonable doubt.
Reacting to the tribunal Judgment, while addressing APC supporters in the state at Government House, Lafia, Governor Al-Makura, who described the verdict as a good omen for the country’s democracy, said it was further affirmation of its victory in the April 11, 2015 poll.
He said his government would continue to strive for the development of the state for the common man to reap the dividends of democracy.
Al-Makura called on the people of the state to be peaceful and work for the growth of Nasarawa.
On his part the deputy governorship candidate to the former minister of information, who is an ex-chairman of Obi Local Government, Alhaji Ibrahim Agbo, described the tribunal judgment as “a day light robbery.”
He promised that his party, APGA, will appeal the judgment.
