Billionaire Elon Musk ignited a firestorm on Thursday, 5 June, 2025 alleging that President Donald Trump is named in the unreleased Jeffrey Epstein files, claiming this is why they remain under wraps.
The explosive accusation, posted on Musk’s platform X, marks a dramatic escalation in the public feud between the former allies, further unravelling their once-close relationship.
Musk wrote, “Time to drop the really big bomb:
@realDonaldTrump is in the Epstein files. That is the real reason they have not been made public. Have a nice day, DJT!”
He provided no evidence to support the claim, later adding, “Mark this post for the future. The truth will come out.”
The allegation follows Musk’s departure from his role as a special advisor to Trump’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). Tensions flared after Musk publicly criticised Trump’s “One Big Beautiful Bill,” a massive tax and spending package, calling it a “disgusting abomination.”
Trump retaliated, expressing disappointment in his “first buddy” and terminated billions in government contracts with Musk’s companies, including SpaceX and Tesla.
Trump and Epstein, the disgraced financier and convicted sex offender who died in 2019, were known social acquaintances in the 1980s and 1990s, with Trump appearing in Epstein’s flight logs seven times during that period.
However, no evidence from previously released documents ties Trump to Epstein’s criminal activities.
Trump has denied any wrongdoing, stating last year, “I was never on Epstein’s Plane, or at his ‘stupid’ Island,” and claiming a falling out over a real estate dispute.
Musk’s claim has fuelled calls from House Democrats, including Rep. Dan Goldman (D-NY), for the full release of the Epstein files, suspecting concealment to protect Trump.
The White House has not responded to the allegation as at the time of going to press.
Meanwhile, Tesla’s stock plummeted nearly 16% on Thursday amid the public spat.
The fallout, described as the “implosion of Washington’s biggest bromance,” highlights a rift that began over policy disagreements but has turned deeply personal.
Musk’s provocative posts, including a video of Trump partying with Epstein, have drawn scrutiny, with some questioning the billionaire’s motives and credibility. As the feud unfolds, the Epstein files remain a source of speculation, with no concrete evidence yet linking Trump to any criminality.
