Worried by the rising spate of unemployment in the country resulting from the prevalent economic recession, the National Board for Technical Education has restated its determination to step up the implementation of the national vocational qualification framework, which it began two years ago.
Speaking in an interview with newsmen at an educational stakeholders forum in Abuja, the Director, Skills Development Department, NBTE, Awbati D.K disclosed that the implementation of the framework will ensure that Nigerians, especially the youths are professionally equiped with technical skills that will make them self employed service providers as well as employers of labour.
He noted that the framework basically targets the unemployed, private sector, the informal and the formal sectors.
The Board, he explained is assidously working towards improving training and giving certificate to those qualified. This he said is aimed at checking quackery, ensuring professional ethics among technicians, boosting the confidence of Nigerians on indigenous technicians and artisans as well as generating chains of employment.
Mr. Awbati further reiterated NBTE’s committment to ensuring high quality technical education which is its core mandate by ensuring that technical colleges seeking accreditation comply with the standard of equipments, manpower and quality of training required for such.
