THE Niger State Police Command has arrested two suspects who specialize in kidnapping students of Federal University of Technology (FUT), Minna.

The suspects who succeeded in kidnapping three FUT students had been terrorising students of FUT, Minna.

It was learnt that the suspects, Abraham Jatto, 30, from Edo state and Idowu Mafe, 29, from Ogun state were on the wanted list of the police .

They were arrested in their hideout at Sauka Kahuta area in Minna by the Command’s Special Anti-kidnapping Squad.

It was gathered that the suspects belong to a syndicate, which had been terrorising students of FUT Minna and its environs for some time now.

Checks revealed that the suspects who specialize in kidnapping undergraduate students and demanding for ransom from their parents also have two members of their gang that police operatives are looking for.

Our correspondent gathered that the victims were kidnapped at different locations in Minna and dispossed of their valuables such as laptops, handsets, jewelleries and money.

One of the victims, Esther Okwe, 24, of Department of Estate Management, 500 level, of the institution, paid N500,000 through her parents to regain her freedom.

Other victims kidnapped include, Agbo Sylvanus 24, of Department of Mathematics, 500 level and Peter Adown, 21,of department of Micro Biology 400 level of Federal University of Technology Minna.

One of the suspects, Mafe a graduate of university of Illorin regretted involving himself in this inhuman act that has brought shame to his family.

According to him, “When the issue of getting Dubai job came up, my parents could not afford the amount (N750,000)they were demanding from us and Abraham raised the issue of kidnapping which led us to this predicament., ”

“I have dragged my good family name in the mud .Honestly I have a good upbringing ,I can’t even factor in what led me to this heinous act I pray that my parents will forgive me .

“If am able to come out this mess I will dedicate my life in fighting crime to standstill in Nigeria, I am extremely ashamed of myself and promise not to ever go back to it again. ”

Another suspect, Jatto, told our correspondent that he decided to go into kidnapping business just to raise money to secure Dubai job offered to him.

He confessed to have rented two bedroom apartment at the back of Niger state trade fair complex to keep those he kidnapped without his neighbours knowing about it.

Jatto a graduate of Edo state university, however regretted his actions, “I was a successful business man who never depended on people for assistance, in fact I cannot explain how I started kidnapping people.”

The Niger State police spokesman, Bala Elkana, On Tuesday confirmed the arrest of the suspects, adding that command recovered one Honda Accord ash colour with registration number, ABUJA ABJ 583 AE used by the suspects in kidnapping the victims.

Elkana said, “Investigations are on-going . The suspects would be arraigned in court soon. ”

Asked what the command was doing to apprehend the remaining two suspects, he said, “We are getting closer to get the remaining two persons, they can run away but we will get them and bring them to book.
