Victims

By Benedict Ahanonu

In divers life of circumstances
In multi-world of wreaking woes
Bastardized people both old and young
By matted hate and meddling wars
Marauding famine and jilting love
Massaging poverty, menacing hunger
Melancholic illnesses and merciless misrule
Victims of want and sudden mayhem
Victims of battery, hyphenated attack
Victims afar and victims so near
Low and high; black or white
Charred like earth on bake of sun
Running roused for aid and cover
Just too many in wailing world.
