If the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina, had hoped to make Nigerians less critical of President Muhammadu Buhari in the New Year with his published article titled, ‘2021: Year to Calm Down and Wail Less’, he appears off the mark as a salvo of adverse criticism has trailed the article and its author on Social Media.
Mr. Adesina published the piece on the last Thursday of 2020.
But in online reaction via twitter, not a few Nigerians were miffed that the presidential spokesman penned the piece, which appears to rub it in for respondents as the following replies show through the handle @MobilePunch:
“This is not expected from a supposed Image Maker of Mr President. Criticism is part of democracy and people have legitimate rights to criticize. Mr. Adesina should learn how to project his principal positively to Nigerians and stop this abuse of office.” – @trueAFICIONADO
“Dude thinks this is a joke! He thinks Nigerians complaining over the unprecedented levels of insecurity and unbearable hardship is a joke? Femi, them go check you in for 2021.” – @CephasKadiri
“Wailing?!!! But remember that ur principal nd other APC members wailed in 2014, so wailing continues. We r gradually counting down to ur number of days in d office for u and ur oga. We can’t wait to see u off.” – @simplyomoniyi
“In 2021, non wailing APC members/Buharists will buy fuel at N86 per liter, bag of rice at N8000, cement at N1200, and they will be marked to be protected from bandits, Bokoharam and kidnappers. All Buharists should submit their names to Adesina for your vip cards.” – @AtikuZo
“The regime will reduce wailing when kidnapping stops, when killing stops and when there is quality leadership. It’s not about Buhari’s feeling. It’s about Nigerians and their welfare.” – @WaleDurojaye
“How unfair and stupid his tweets are. Demanding a good life is wailing. Every new day brings an end to this nightmare.” – @chinwengo
“You and your people should increase commonsense and good governance, then criticism will reduce! Yes you may be in govt and like govt, but NO be you like Nigeria pass!” – @ben_efe
“One thing is certain, by the time you leave office…. you will then see things from different angle and perspective. Privilege individuals in the position of authority usually see people who criticize Government policies and programs even constructively as enemy.” – @Olusina14
“Once Buhari increases his competence in governance and delivers on his election campaign manifesto, critics will automatically reduce wailing. The relationship is inversely proportional. Happy New Year Mr. Adesina!” – @primaguy
“This new year!!! You have started looking for our trouble,if we drag you now? Did we do bad?” – @IneClaire
“Will your boss reduce suffering, hardship, pampering of boko haram, harassing citizens, reckless borrowing, corruption, nepotism, tribalism, persecution of Christians, (especially northern Christians), lies, disappearance from Nigerians?” – @nuelchica
“Talk responsibly this year 2021.” @PeterEnenche1
“He can mock man but he cannot mock God. Power is transient. Mr Adeshina, please softly softly.” – @emenikeogbuabor
