Ahead of the December 5, 2015 gubernatorial election, Mr. Romoe Bekeyei has indicated his intention to contest for office of the governor of Bayelsa state.
The governorship aspirant who is contesting on the platform of the All Progressive Congress told journalists in Yenagoa that his vision if elected is to see the emergence of Bayelsa state as a model tourist state in Nigeria, a regional economic hub for natural mineral resources and industrial capital city of Africa.
He stated that his strategic focus will be anchored on three pillars of sustainability, economic, environmental and social growth in Bayelsa and this would boost industrialisation, job creation, health and environment, Agriculture and Aqua Tourism, world-class Infrastructure development and women and youth empowerment .
Bekeyei, who hails from Odi in Kolokuma/ Opokuma Local Government Area of Bayelsa, posited that if given the mandate to govern the state, he would construct three flyover bridges in the state capital, Yenagoa, namely at Tombia roundabout, Hospital junction and Julius Berger junction, establish satellite towns in each local government area and major townships, build an airstrip on Brass Island and Yenagoa, promote mechanized fish farming and processing industries, build a state-owned oil refinery, create industrial complex in each local government and build a five star hotel on Brass Island, among others.
The youthful governorship candidate also declared that his blueprint for the state will include the construction of two cargo Deep Sea ports for Agge and Brass Island, shopping mall and amusement park in Yenagoa, skill acquisition for unemployed youths, mini stadia for all the eight local government headquarters and acceleration of the Brass LNG projects.
Who is Romoe Bekeyei?
Romoe Bekeyei is an international businessman, industrialist, politician and philanthropist with interest in diverse sectors of the Nigerian economy, particularly energy, manufacturing, agriculture, banking and tourism.
He has also created a niche for himself in Conflict Resolution and Risk Management where he has played key roles universally, especially in West Africa region.
In view of his passion for security and peace building, he has received recognition from several international organization including,The Security Institute (SYI UK ) and the International Association of Chiefs of Police Officers (IACP) United States of America.
Born on May 13,1975 in Odi Town, KOLGA in Bayelsa state, Romoe attended Mgbela Primary School in Odi, Community Secondary School , Zarama and later obtained a Diploma in Mechanical Engineering at Anang and Bros Institute in Port Harcourt .He also attended the Rivers State University of Science and Technology , Port Harcourt where he acquired a B. Sc ( Hons ) in Adult and Community Development .He is currently pursuing a Master Degree in Security and Risk Management at the Department of Criminology, University of Leicester, United Kingdom.
In 2011, he was appointed a Media and Communication Aide on the Presidential Amnesty Programme, State House, Abuja. He also served as Special Adviser on Niger Delta Affairs to the African Representatives of. World Youths. Prior to this, he was the Coordinator of Youth on Community Based Organization under the office of the Special Assistant to the Governor of Bayelsa State from 2006 to 2007.
