Following increasing cases of insecurity accompanied by loss of lives, Niger state Governor, Abubakar Sani Bello, has vowed to sigh the death warrant for anyone convicted of murder in relation to the crises.
In the last couple of months no fewer than 30 lives have been lost to various crises in the state.
Sani Bello, apparently disturbed by the large number of lives lost and property destroyed as a result of the disturbances, said his administration would do everything possible to secure the lives and property of peace-loving people of the state.
Speaking shortly after he returned to Minna from Kaduna where he attended a security meeting along with other governors in the northern part of the country Governor Bello declared: ” I will sign the death warrant for anyone convicted of murder, I will not even blink; I will sign and sleep well”.
The governor also warned that anyone caught promoting crisis in the state “would be made an example”.
He also alleged that some influential people, including religious leaders and others politicians, were behind the series of disturbances in the state saying that the last crisis at Sabon-daga led to the destruction 30 Gbagyi houses and 20 Fulani huts
“We pray for this people to repent if they don’t we pray God to destroy them because they are our enemy, our collective interest is greater than their individual interest,” he said.
The governor chastised some of the sponsors of the disturbances for making use of innocent poor peoples’ children while hiding theirs in air conditioned houses or send them abroad.
His words: “I don’t believe any responsible person will tell other peoples’ children to go and burn down homes. Some people don’t have compassion or feeling; some don’t care if this entire city is burnt down in one day”.
Governor Bello therefore urged that “as parents, Nigerlites and as major stakeholders we should pay attention to those that come to our communities and report them immediately. ”
