Indian legend Sharath Kamal Achanta has expressed optimism that he will not return to India empty-handed on his maiden outing at the WTT Contender Lagos.
The 2022 Commonwealth Games gold medalist will be leading the Indian team to Lagos and he has vowed to clinch one of the titles at stake at the $80,000 prize money tournament.
“Team India wants some good match preparation before the Paris Olympic Games, so we wanted to come to Lagos. We also want to try our doubles combination because last year, our Indian players had a great outing in Lagos and this year we all expect the same too. Personally, for me, I would like to win the title as it can boost my confidence right before the Paris Olympic Games,” he said.
Meanwhile, some of the top players competing at the five-day WTT Contender Lagos arrived at the weekend with the Indian, Chinese, and Korean contingents expected to touch down in Lagos on Monday, June 17 in readiness for the preliminary matches which kick off on Wednesday, June 19.
