From Ochei Matthew, Asaba
Following the recent attacks on Nigerian living in South Africa, the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has planned to close down South African businesses in south-south and south-east regions.
The body led by the Zone B coordinator, Comrade Pedro Obi stated this at a press conference in Asaba, while condemning the xenophobic attack in its entirety.
According to the NANS, if not the intervention of Delta state government, we had prepared to close down all businesses with South Africa interest in the region in response to the xenophobic attack.
“We allowed reasoning to prevail after the intervention of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta state and security agencies, knowing well that most of the business have Nigerian interests and cannot put more Nigerian into untold hardship”
The group called on Nigerians in Diaspora particularly those living in South Africa to be law abiding, remain vigilant and protect themselves against a failed South Africa institution.
The NANS frowned at the lukewarm attitude of the South African Government over the attack, appealing to President Jacob Zuma to stop playing politics with the lives of innocent Nigerian with immediate effect
The body also frowned at the snail pace handling of the xenophobic attack by the Nigerian Government, demanding a swift response from the government to end the attacks.
