From Ankeli Emmanuel, Sokoto
Sokoto State Commissioner for Energy and Petroleum Resources, Sanusi Danfulani, has assured that the State Independent Power Project (IPP) is nearing completion and would soon be functional.
Danfulani, who spoke after inspecting a complete and functional power restoration in Durbawa village of Kware local government, reaffirmed that the Governor Ahmed Aliyu-led adminstration is committed to developing the state.
Danfulani, who had earlier visited the Sokoto State House of Assembly in response to an invitation extended to him by the House Committee on Power, said the committee met his absence when they visited his Ministry, hence the reason for going to the Assembly.
Commenting on the IPP, Danfulani said: “All the necessary things required to rebound the moribund power is already on ground, except for those we are still expecting from overseas to arrive. And by the time those ones arrived, the IPP will be effectively working. And I think that will not be too long. Maybe, in the next couple of months. Upon completion, the IPP will be on stream and useful for the state”.
He said so far the Sokoto IPP was 80% completed, adding that the state is not in partnership with the federal government on the IPP as wrongly speculated by some.
“The whole project is being sponsored by the state government. There is no partnership yet,” Danfulani said.
